Subject: Dr. Dobb's Tcl-URL! - weekly Tcl news and links (Feb 11)
Date: Sun, 17 Feb 2002 23:13:19 -0600 (CST)

Administrative note: the "Tcl-URL!" edition Cameron Laird sent out
last Monday (February 11th) had several bad characters in it which
made URLs "unclickable". Cameron apologizes for the errors. Here's
a corrected version:

Last week was a week where the very existence of Tcl came into
question. Subject: "RedHat declares Tcl Dead"
        http://groups.google.com/groups?th=13be52190f1fa3aa

Should our favourite language die gracefully and abdicate in favour
of Java, VB, Perl and any other sexy language? Subject: "Can Tcl-Tk
    replace VB?"
        http://groups.google.com/groups?th=4b36b7f08086c8e6

What is the main problem with Tcl? Subject: "Standard Tcl"
        http://groups.google.com/groups?th=c959795e6b7a0f75

Is all this gut wrenching destroying the community? Or does it
serve a useful purpose? Has it become more frequent? Should it be
stopped? How? Subject: "Wrecking a newsgroup"
        http://groups.google.com/groups?th=1fa9105ec08f74a6

Tklib is currently nothing but an empty hull. Let's build the
internals of the ship and make it fly! Subject: "tklib use encouraged"
        http://groups.google.com/groups?th=753ab62428f9d1ff

Once in a while, something beautiful happens in Usenet that you
don't get to see very often. Take for example the legend of "jooky"
which was born about two weeks ago. You loved him, hated him but
were rarely left indifferent. In a stunning show of candour, jooky
professes to be a tortured soul, and seeks redemption through Tcl.
Will the Tcl gods work in his favour? Only time will tell. But the
immediate effect is the possibility to see some "boring" but
necessary improvements to Tcl. Subject: "Applied Ethics with Tcl/Tk"
        http://groups.google.com/groups?th=6c9c2977b2567499

Want to share your program but you aren't sure how? Can it even be
done? While a few solutions have been offered, issues remain.
    Subject: "Redistributable binary?"
        http://groups.google.com/groups?th=8e4f7bf0e3bc302c

One thing Tcl developers have wanted to do for a long time is print
line numbers for their code in order to track errors or just to have
more debugging information. With all of its power, you would think
Tcl could do this easily. Not so. Subject: "Printing line number"
        http://groups.google.com/groups?th=525d18cdc7836aeb

Want to make your Palm howl with laughter? Then Tcl it! Subject:
    "PALM TCL: impressions and questions"
        http://groups.google.com/groups?th=85474d7ba00286f0

So you want the power of Tk, but you don't want (or have) a
graphical environment to work in? This thread will definitely
interest you. Subject: "How to run tk8.0.5 in single console
    style window"
        http://groups.google.com/groups?th=ffbadb797368f7e0
