SparcFor those of you wanting netscape for S/Linux, your wait is almost over. J. Scott Kasten has posted regarding his success in getting the mozilla browser built and running on the Sparc. While he expects to get the browser up for downloading shortly, he has not yet announced the location. Watch this space, we'll tell you when and where it is available.
James Moody has reported that the stock 2.1.125 kernel works on his Sparc without trouble or performance difficulties. He mentions just a couple of minor glitches, see his message for details. As the 2.2 kernel approaches, it seems we are finally approaching a point where the non-Intel architectures are supported properly by the standard kernel.
AlphaThe word is that 2.1.125 works well for (most) Alpha users as well. Many of the patches that have been required for a long time have finally been merged in. Some users note that it is important to comment out the SMP = 1 line in the top-level Makefile, at least for uniprocessor systems, or strange things will indeed happen. Others have reported a need to run a bleeding-edge version of MILO; see this note for instructions on where to find that.
The official Debian-Alpha port page has been updated. It includes a check list for what needs to be done in order to release the alpha port with Debian 2.1.
Marc A. Volovic posted a note with URLs to his nano-HOWTO in various formats. He also mentioned in a followup that he very, very much wants feedback, especially information on mistakes, inaccuracies, convoluted statements, paper blemishes, [or] what-have-you. As a result of feedback he's received since then, the nano-HOWTO has already been expanded.
Arnaud Installe has patched milo, adding a few features to make it more user-friendly. He posted a list of the changes that his patch makes to milo-2.0.35-0.1. (Debian Alpha) Coincidentally, of course, it turns out that milo-2.0.35-0.2 is already available, though no official announcement has been made.
